|
Overview / 简介: |
Ideal for today's young investigative reader, each A True Book includes lively sidebars, a glossary and index, plus a comprehensive "To Find Out More" section listing books, organizations, and Internet sites. A staple of library collections since the 1950s, the new A True Book series is the definitive nonfiction series for elementary school readers. |

Gr. 2-4. Beginning with cheetahs' best-known quality, their speed, this very readable volume goes on to discuss their prowess and limitations as hunters as well as their prey, social habits, life cycle, and use of camouflage. Like so many books on wildlife, it ends with a discussion of threats to cheetahs' existence and their status as an endangered species. In this case, the outlook is dismal as the book notes that cheetahs are close to extinction and do not readily breed in captivity. Remarkably clear, often-dramatic color photos of cheetahs in the wild offer unusually good views of the animals. A glossary and short lists for books, organizations, and Web sites are appended. Other recent additions to the True Book animal series include volumes on bobcats, jaguars, leopards, lions, and tigers. Carolyn Phelan |

Rating: four stars.
Although the paperback version of this is quite flimsy, it is a good basic book for a child. I sponsored a cheetah for my nieces and wanted a book to accompany the gift.
