Grade 3-5-The first book defines what a citizen is and gives an overview of the process of becoming one. The second book describes different types of taxes, why they are paid, and what services they support. Each title is illustrated with clear, captioned photographs that emphasize points made in the text. Historical references are illustrated with archival images. Both texts are written in a clear, concise, straightforward style. Other titles about these topics are written on higher reading levels with increased complexity. These books will serve as resources for units about local, state, and federal government. ESL teachers and adults providing education and assistance to immigrants may find them valuable as well.

Rating: five stars.
This a a good book for people studying to become a citizen of the United States and information for kids who are curious or are helping their parents. The book is older so some of the information is no longer valid. The fee prices have skyrocketed, but much of the information remains the same. Since many people who are studying to become a citizen are learning English, this book is great to practice reading at the intermediate level. Kids may also help their parents with this book or it can be used as a resource when studying about citizenship. |
