PreSchool-Grade 1—A small rabbit is distraught when he can't find his granny. Caring animals hear Bunny Blue's sobs and stop to help. A bee, goose, tiger, crocodile, bear, and fox gently ask some questions: "What does she look like…?", "Can you give us another clue?" "Is she, by any chance, blue like you?" Bunny's replies are punctuated with "BOO HOO HOO!" Smee's endearing ink and watercolor illustrations on generous white backgrounds show the friends climbing up trees and looking behind rocks for a granny with "twinkly eyes," "a BIG smile," and "soft, furry arms." When the rabbits are happily reunited, Bunny Blue promises to "stick to you like GLUE!" The heartfelt emotions of being lost and then reassuringly found will resonate with children. The rhyming text and exquisite page design make this perfect for storytime.—Linda Ludke, London Public Library, Ontario, Canada

Little Bunny Blue was wandering hither and thither trying to find his missing Granny. He had a very worried look on his face and very soon big crocodile tears began to flow. "BOO HOO HOO!" A duck saw his distress and asked what she looked like. Bunny Blue told him she had "twinkly eyes." Even a little bumblebee flitting about had a concerned look on his face.
A tiger asked to describe her a bit more. Bunny Blue waved his arms about and said, "She's got a BIG smile." Twinkly eyes and a big smile weren't going to be very much help in finding his Granny so a crocodile asked him for another hint. Bunny began to cry again and talked about her "soft, furry arms." Bear tried to help and fox had a clue, but everyone was going to have to search for Granny. Together would they be able to find her? "Granny! Where are you?"
Little lost Bunny Blue will charm his way into the hearts of the reader, young or old. Every now and then a little one feels very frightened if they get lost, even if it is simply around the corner in a supermarket out of the sight of their parent or, in this case Granny. I loved the whimsical drawings and poor little Bunny Blue was as cuddly a character as they come. This is one of those especially charming stories that every Granny is going to love to read to their little bunny! |
