From Organization / 国外机构评价:
Kindergarten-Grade 2—Longtime friends Flabby Cat and Slobby Dog have fallen into comfortable, lazy routines, doing nothing but eating and sleeping. When they can no longer fit on their couch, they ignore what is happening to them. And when they outgrow their house, they tell themselves that it has shrunk. They set off to find their "distant relatives," a tiger and a wolf, in hopes of living with them. The pair walks hither and yon, through cities and fields, to no avail, and food is scarce. Returning home, they spy their sleek new selves in a mirror: "For the first time in a long time, they felt really comfortable with who they were." Ross's watercolor and line cartoons depict the animals growing larger and larger, with clothes straining over their stomachs and food covering most surfaces in their home. However, the pictures may prove confusing as they are at odds with the text ("the cushions almost filled the room," etc.), and children may not understand the pair's underlying problem, and that they have slimmed down because they have gotten more exercise

Foreign Customer Review / 国外客户评价:
This is a very disappointing book with definite weight discrimination. It portrays people's bodies in a negative light, and perpetuates negative stereotypes of people of size, beginning with the title containing the words "Flabby" and "Slobby". Although the intention of the book appears to be to encourage activity and reduce inactivity, this book does so in a manner that is offensive, stereotypical, and misinformed. The message is clearly weight-biased (i.e., only those who are "strong and slim", "sleek and trim" can feel "really comfortable" with who they are) and some of the illustrations are offensive. I would not recommend this book to anyone, except to demonstrate how weight-based discrimination is present in children's literature. A very disappointing book from a popular author and illustrator. As a teacher and a specialist in the treatment of eating disorders and body image concerns, I find that children have enough difficulties developing a positive body image and positive attitudes towards the diversity of other people's bodies. This book is not helpful to perpetuate positive body image and healthy behaviors and attitudes.
