| It's Summertime is a children's picture book about summer on a farm. The things the author finds memorable about the season include strawberries, haying, canning, going barefoot, cows and calves in the meadow, thunderstorms, going to the zoo, camping, and hearing wild geese on the pond. Children will enjoy discussing what summer means to them and deciding what elements they would add to the story. They might even like to write and illustrate their own summertime book. The illustrations here, especially the ones with cows, are not realistic enough for my taste, but I loved the pictures of a thunderstorm and of Canada geese. I also liked the way a cat kept appearing somewhat unexpectedly in many of the pictures. This is an excellent book to share with young children to enhance their appreciation of a wonderful season |
