| Katie Woo is a 6 years old and is 1st grade. She is Chinese American and has 2 best friends Pedro and JoJo.
In this book Katie Woo is going to spend the night at her grandparents house. Now that Katie's family moves they are now closer to her Grandparents, so she can see them more often. Katie gets to plant seeds for tomato plants that she'll harvest in the summer and make dumplings with her Grandmother. Katie doesn't like the bedroom or her bed, but then finds out that it was her mother's bed! After some cookie and lullabies and a phone call to mom, Katie makes it through the night and dreams of shooting stars.
Also included in each book is a glossary of words, 3 discussion questions and 3 writing prompts,and Having fun with Katie Woo. In this book the fun is: to Write an Acrostic Poem and shows you how to do it! These books lead to thinking about the story and situation Katie is in in this book.
There is also a website about Katie Woo and friends and can be found at Cap Stone Kids, take out the spaces and add .com. The website contains Lean more about Katie Woo, her friends, downloads and books. That's where I found that Katie was 6 and in 1st grade!
I really like these easy 3 chapter books. Each page has color illustration and big easy read print. I think this would be perfect for 1st graders! I think children will love Katie Woo, she's cool and hip and is a normal kid! Plus for children just getting into chapter books this is a good confidence builder - I can read a chapter book! |
