| Grade 2-3-- This sequel to Alex Fitzgerald's Cure for Nightmares (Little, 1990) continues the adventures of Alex, a newcomer to Ocean View's fourth grade. After she successfully completes a piano solo for the annual Christmas show, Alex receives a special invitation to audition for a famous rock star's music video. As her dreams of being a celebrity inflate, all thoughts for her father's Christmas presents and her friends' feelings disappear. The action moves briskly throughout ten short chapters that are interspersed with black-and-white illustrations. Alex's character remains likable, but disappointingly one-dimensional. While only an average choice for transitional readers, the story will suffice for those youngsters with similar visions of notoriety. |
