PreSchool-Grade 1–This calming story begins in a child's room: the lighthouse night-light is on, the cat is settling in, the goldfish is getting sleepy, and as the youngster drifts into dreamland, she sails a toy boat through the night. Soft pastel illustrations, dominated by twilight blues and greens, match the dreamy quality of the text. While this is yet another in the toys become real in dreams genre, it is a gentle, sweet story that works well as a bedtime read-aloud. With its simple language, large print, and highlighted verbs, it's also a good choice for budding readers.–Angela J. Reynolds, Annapolis Valley Regional Library, Bridgetown, NS, Canada

Foreign Customer Review / 国外客户评价: |
I have read this story to my toddler literally hundreds of times in the past nine months, and neither of us are anywhere close to getting tired of it. In roughly 100 words, and with the help of 20 richly beautiful illustrations, Sayles shares with us a young boy's dream in which he pilots his toy boat out the window and through the air, encounters raccoons, crickets, and owls in the nearby woods during the night, and pilots his boat back home just ahead of the morning sun. The rhyme scheme and poetic structure of the story add to the delight of reading it. |
