The Incredible Shrinking Teacher

Kindergarten-Grade 3-"The toughest teacher in town," from Attack of the 50-Foot Teacher (Holt, 2000), returns. This time Miss Birmbaum is making her students work the day before the last day of school. She stays late to decorate the classroom and prepare treats for a surprise celebration. A party game is "pin the verb on the noun" and treats are prune pudding, kidney bean cookies, and brussels sprout juice. In the cafeteria kitchen, Miss Birmbaum falls into her treats and discovers she is shrinking. After spending the night running on the pet hamster's exercise wheel, she escapes when the animal falls asleep. Students find her stuck on top of a cupcake that has fallen out of a child's lunch bag. She returns to normal size after eating a lick of chocolate icing, and then orders pizza and cake for the party. It is a bit far-fetched to believe that her shrinking experience made this out-of-touch adult know "what it's like to be little!" but it won't bother children. linda: 科幻风格的水彩画带来欢闹的学校生活

Irma Birmbaum是一位很严厉的老师，在暑假前的第二天依旧在上课，其他班都在开party,学生们都觉得Irma Birmbaum老师有点不近人情。
你看墙上的班规“ NO TALKING; NO RUNNING; NO PLAYING; NO NO NO”。 Birmbaum老师还宣布了明天的家庭作业，不过是“做好准备，迎接惊喜”。孩子们并不看好，有的学生打赌猜测Birmbaum老师的惊喜就是进行一次101道题的测试。
孩子们放学走后，Irma Birmbaum老师一个人忙了起来，用气球和彩带装饰教室，还在每个同学的桌子上放了一份小礼物。她还想出了一个特别的游戏“pin the verb on the noun”大概是给每个名词搭配动词，如CAT（chase the cat）;TREE （climber the three）等，老师就是不忘学习，连party的游戏都那么“万变不离其宗”。呵呵！
Irma Birmbaum老师去学校食堂准备做明天party用的糕点，不幸的是，Irma老师不小心滑到打翻了所有的东西。更不可思议的是，身体竟然也在变小...其实她在清理打翻的东西时，还没发觉得自己在变小，你看，拿着拖把的她比水槽都低了。
她渴了，想要喝点水。看，有直接可以饮用的水（水立方也是这种设备，可以不用杯子，更环保，大家可以去体验一下）。Birmbaum老师能够成下面的开关，她太小没法够到喝水了。
她看见体育室里亮着灯，想找人帮忙，却被球和球拍压在身上。Birmbaum老师为了不想毁掉明天的party，鼓励自己振作起来。她径直走向图书錧，也许书里有方法帮她解除困境。
现在，她仅能够到最低一排的书架了，一架子一架子的书从她的角度来看就像摩天大楼一般。她想把书拿出来，pull and pull，可书纹丝不动。
Birmbaum老师仍在变小。最后，她来到教室，这是仅存的她也许能找出办法来的一个地方。看Birmbaum老师好聪明，她用积木块搭成楼梯爬上桌翻看讲义。
突然，她听到一陈奇怪的声音，转身一看，站着一只看起来很饿的仓鼠。她跑啊跑，竟然跑到仓鼠的笼子里。她在仓鼠的健身车里一直跑啊，跑了一夜，连仓鼠都睡了，她太累了。
第二天同学们都来上学了，Birmbaum老师那么小，差点被踩到，被一个同学的Cupcake砸在头上。在校长室，Birmbaum老师从Cupcake中又掉入金鱼缸中，这才魔法解除，她又变大了。
Birmbaum老师打电话订购Pizza和cake直接送到教室，她和学生一起过了一个很有意思的party。 Games! Snacks! Songs! Dancing! 同学说：“这是我过得最好的一个party”。 Birmbaum老师意味深长地说：“因为我了解变小时的感觉。”曾追着她跑的仓鼠也在她身边。这是我2014年1月1日在博客上写的，还记得让乐同学带去分享了这本书。一晃整3年过去了。可以和小yu一块看好多书了。
