| This series is set in a creepy old house inhabited by skeletons, zombies, a vampire, and a mad scientist. In the first installment, Professor Von Skalpel wants to create a monster that doesn't have unsightly scars. He invents a special adhesive and then builds a creature by simply gluing together various body parts. Of course, the glue doesn't work very well and everyone who lives in Monster Manor must then chase down all of the parts before they run away. When the professor finally manages to construct his "perfect" monster, the beast goes for a swim and dissolves because he was not made to be waterproof. This tale is more annoying than funny. The main characters are broadly drawn with no depth and the plot is thin at best. Although the colorful cartoon artwork is appealing, the weak writing will discourage repeated readings. Buy extra copies of Dav Pilkey's "Captain Underpants" books or Daniel Pinkwater's "Fat Camp Commandos" adventures (both Scholastic) instead of wasting money on this one.-- |

| The book Monster Manor takes place in Transylvania. The people in the book are Von Scalpel, The Swamp Horror (Horror for short), Beatrice Mon Stare, the Femur Family, Wolfman Stu and Frankie.
It is a great book. It's fun, humorous and enjoyable. It's more funny than scary. I recommend this book for kids and teens.
