|
Overview / 简介: |
Meet Tilly and her friends! From the celebrated Polly Dunbar comes the second in a series of humorous stories about a lovable group of pals.
Hector the pig is very happy sitting on Tilly's lap, until Tiptoe, Pru, Tumpty, and Doodle squish their way in and spoil it. But Tilly knows how to show her friend Hector how special he is — by painting a picture just for him. |

This delightful picture book and its companion, Hello, Tilly (2008), feature a mix of characters who all live together in a yellow house, including a little girl, Tilly, and a toddler, Hector, who happens to be a pig. When the story begins, Hector is sitting on Tilly’s lap, proclaiming, “I’m the happiest I have ever been!” Ah, but as adults know all too well, such transcendent happiness cannot last. Soon Tiptoe the rabbit invites himself on Tilly’s lap, and the other housemates—an alligator, a chicken, and an elephant—want in, too. This leaves Hector tossed on the floor under the elephant’s behind, now the unhappiest he’s ever been. Offers to play from his friends are rejected; Hector still wants Tilly, but she is busy painting. All ends well, though, when he sees the picture is of him. Dunbar gets everything right here, especially her portrayal of the extremes of emotion young children can experience. The mixed-media artwork focuses in on the characters, placing them against expanses of buff-colored pages, and expertly captures the essence of each with a remarkable economy of line and text. Sweet. |

This is a lovely book. Although it would make a nice gift for an under 7 , I feel it a little pricey for a child who doesn't know how to look after books yet. I like the fact that it can be read along with your child & for a child that can read alone. It teaches the child all about friendship and how one can feel that they want that extra special time alone with a close friend or family member. I loved the different colors in the book and these can be pointed out together with your child and this will help a smaller child being read to, learn the different colors. The book as a nice feel to it and nice thick pages. Nice illustrations and lovely colored pages, the writing goes big and small and adds to the thrill of the story. A Happy little tale. |
