Overview / 简介: |
Prowlpuss is a tough, rough, gruff cat, an out-on-the-town cat! And where is Prowlpuss off to tonight with his wooing and hullabalooing? With rolling rhymes and bold paintings, Gina Wilson and David Parkins create a rugged, raucous tomcat that readers won't soon forget. Full color. |

Kindergarten-Grade 3-The middle of this picture story in verse is missing. Its beginning and end don't fit together. Prowlpuss starts in word and pictures as a battle-scarred villain. He mouses and rats the alleys with no-nonsensical remorse. When cyclical lust sets in, he murders the night with yowls to a pure white, lap cat that never comes near. Prowlpuss does not slink back into an alley, however. Suddenly he's got a home and a lady who loves and hugs him. What started as a feral natural force in catdom wimps out on her quilt. The poet is quoted on the flap copy: "Prowlpuss is about that yearning one always has for the unobtainable." This cat as described and illustrated is the wrong vehicle for that elusive, adult insight. The watercolors are powerful evocations of night at a one-eyed cat's level. The book is the illustrator's showcase propped on a wobbly story in rhyme.

Foreign Customer Review / 国外客户评价: |
I bought this book for the little girl I babysit for's third birthday. I was attracted by the rich colours of the cover illustration, the roll-off-your-tongue title and being a cat person, the subject. When I opened and read the T.S. Eliotesque rhymes, I knew I had to have it. I read it aloud in the car. My eight year-old brother loved it. My forty year-old mother loved it. Thirteen year-old me adored it and didn't want to give it up. Now, more than a year later, ordering a copy as a Christmas present for my two year-old cousin Emily, I'm also getting a copy for myself. |
