Overview / 简介: |
The author and illustrator of Amazing Machines know what preschoolers like and just how to present information to them. Now they turn their attention to animals, guiding readers on a trek through the South American rainforest to meet some truly amazing creatures. With bouncy rhyming text, a different animal featured on each spread, and plenty of background details, young readers are sure to enjoy the trip.

Gr 1-2–Several cartoon critters hike (Forest) and scuba dive (Odyssey) through forest scenes and undersea neighborhoods in these titles. Mitton's tidily rhyming texts point out that “Black bears are good at climbing/Just see how well they do./These bears are fetching insects/and pinecone nuts to chew” and that “A giant squid looks scary….” Parker's illustrations give quick impressions of moose and gulper eels. A final page in each book presents a bunch of creatures not mentioned in the texts but depicted in the bright spreads, asking, “Did you find…/see…,” and calling for a second perusal in a quick location game. No additional data for any of the animals (featured or not) is provided.Patricia Manning, formerly at Eastchester Public Library, NY
