| The //Toy Story// series comes to a close with //Toy Story 3//, the last addition to the epic tale of plastic toys and their remarkable escapades. And with it comes the junior novelization of the movie, adapted by Jasmine Jones. Woody's escape from Sunnyside is retold in the pages of this novel for kids. As Woody, the cowboy, and all his synthetic friends watch Andy grow up, their use diminishes as Andy gets older and finds less interest in his toys. After one last, failed attempt at playtime, the toys give up their hopes and resign themselves to being moved to the attic. But, through a series of freak events that only //Toy Story// could accomplish, they end up at Sunnyside. At first, it seems like toy utopia, but things get ugly, and fast. Before long, Woody engages in rather Mission Impossible-esque situations to break out of what has now become a prison.
The book is, essentially, a watered-down version of the movie. What was genius is simplified, what was brilliance is dulled. However, this floppy little novel sticks to the plot quite wonderfully, so readers, no need for fear of that. There is easy vocabulary, with a few interesting words for youngsters to ponder upon and nice, large, print with fun graphics and a few pictures. Definitely a comfortable stepping stone book and a delight for young fans of the movie.
