| PreS--In this soothing picture book, Anna continually repeats the title phrase while Gramps calmly tries to get her ready for bed. As the two build a castle together, he pulls out his pocket watch and announces that it's bedtime. Anna insists that she must first pick up her toys. She next points out that she always has milk and cookies, and then asks for a bath. She remembers that she needs to brush her teeth, and then declares that they must find Mr. Button Nose, and that the stuffed animal always wants to hear a story. Finally, Gramps tucks them both in and reads to them, and as he closes the book, both grandchild and grandfather are nodding off to sleep. Featuring comfortably rounded rabbit figures with huge ears and bristly fur, McMullen's appealing illustrations bring this cozy tale to life. The cartoon-style artwork brings to mind Debi Gliori's "Mr. Bear" series (Orchard), while the cozy domestic tone is reminiscent of Jill Murphy's A Quiet Night In (Candlewick, 1996). | The pictures in this book are wonderful! I browsed through the books at the store and this book struck me as having scenes my 2 year old could really relate to, such as building blocks, bathtime, snacktime, etc.
Many extra details are in the pictures which really kept my toddler's attention. She loves to label everything she sees.
We own too many books that just aren't very fun to look at because the pictures are too abstract or there isn't enough detail.
The story is simple, yet bedtime envoking! Little Anna bunny follows a bedtime routine and reminds Gramps bunny about everything they need to do before bed. It ends with Anna in her bed fast asleep.
Books about bedtime seem to work best when I'm reading my little one to sleep. 'It's Too Soon' was a wonderful find! |
