Are you looking for something different when it comes to zombies and books? Look no further than Tom Becker and Mercer Mayer's creation, "A Zombie's Guide to the Human Body." With a riveting cover that screams "Read Me!" you won't be disappointed by the tasty tidbits that are promised here.
First, our guide starts with a letter from Professor Zombie, addressing fellow zombies and guiding them with notes and tidbits on human bodies. Even if you're not a zombie, this is a good instruction guide for what everything is and how it works. Are you curious about the brain, teeth, or ears and hearing?
The table of contents lays it out beautifully, starting with Body Basics like cells and DNA and continuing with the important things one needs to know:
Skeletal System
Digestive System - `after the stomach' is written over in a blood red ink saying what it really is the authors are talking about: GUTS
Urinary System
Muscular System
Cardiovascular System
Nervous System
Respiratory System
Miscellaneous - like the junk drawer in your kitchen, it's got all the random tidbits: larynx and speech, skin, immune system
Health - with my favorite topic "record breakers" listed on page 88. Did you know that the tallest human ever was Robert Wadlow, who was almost nine feet tall? Do you know the fastest person is listed with a zombie note, also in blood red ink: "LEAVE SPRINTERS ALONE - NOT WORTH TROUBLE."
Finishing off the book is a glossary with a term from the book, its pronunciation, and a definition. Like chime (KIME) is the partly digested food that leaves the stomach and enters the small intestine. You may not want to mention that at the dinner table, but you never know when it will come in handy to win the Science Bee!
