|
Overview / 简介: |
The perfect introduction to the men and women whose scientific discoveries and inventions have changed the way we think and live. |

Grade 2-5– These books are super skinny and heavily illustrated, have jumbo-sized font and plenty of white space, and include only three-to-five sentences per page. Even so, theres a satisfactory amount of substantive and accessible information contained in the standard overview of each subjects life and accomplishments. Grasping all of the scientific principles presented may be a bit of a stretch, however. The text is enhanced by the period photographs and their helpful captions, but unfortunately, Venezias trademark cartoons do little to increase understanding. Most fall flat, many are puzzling, and some trivialize the seriousness of the subject (a cartoon in Einstein depicts the man flying through space and observing that it beats doing laundry). Still, Venezia is no stranger to series nonfiction, and in libraries where his other Getting to Know… books circulate, these will also.

Rating: five stars.
I read the first Mike Venezia book when I was a child myself. I never stopped. They are all beautifully made, with the right mix of truthful information and much needed fun.
Albert Einstein is great. It explains a lot about the life of this great scientist, without going into details that would be inappropriate for younger kids, and without delving into the theories. When I was younger, I read Uncle Albert books and they explained the theories, but they were intended to much older children.
THis book is perfect for kindergarteners up to third graders. Older children won't like it because of the childish big type, but it would be good fro them too. |
