I am 60 years old. Both my parents experienced the hatred of Greenville during the flood. My father was born in 1911 in Louisiana, his family of 13 kids and his parents (born in 1860 and 1875) living in Greenville during the flood as sharecroppers. My mother was born in Greenville in 1921, told of the flood and never wanted to go back once she moved North. I 'see' my father and his family held at gun point by white kids. My parents never told us of this particular hatred, and never allowed us to visit Greenville, because they knew the natural hatred white Americans exhibited. This hate was done to 'Americans', 'Land of the Free'. I understand again why my mother cringed every time I sang, 'My Country Tis of Thee, Sweet land of liberty' as a child in school. Great book educating the hate that wasn't taught in my school.
