| Grade 2-4-Striking full-color photographs that show each animal in its own environment are the trademark of these two titles. Each book begins with a general discussion of the order it examines and a simple explanation of where these creatures fit into the animal kingdom. Next, double-page spreads examine the habits of a number of familiar creatures. Family, genus and species, and size are noted for each one at the top of the page. While the amount of information offered is not extensive, it will hold readers' interest. Perching Birds also includes a chapter on "Birdwatching" and Land Predators has some tips on how to locate signs of these mammals in forests and fields. Two supplemental titles.

I have bought most of this series for my nephew, and everytime i give him a new volume, he gets excited. It's really amazing to see the little guy get so enthused about something other than pokeman or nintendo. I found this volume in the series particularly good, it's written in a way that apeals to a child's natural curiosity. The book is educational, while being lighthearted.
