In this second book of Rob Roy's new Calendar Mysteries series, someone has left a rabbit in a cage in the first grade classroom closet, along with a supply of food pellets and a note. The rabbit's name is Douglas. It's Valentine's Day, so Bradley, Brian, Nate, and Lucy take Douglas home for the holiday week-end.
But Douglas huddles in a corner of his cage, not moving and not eating. A trip to the vet reveals the rabbit is healthy enough, but he's homesick for his previous owner. He could starve himself to death from loneliness. Now the four sleuths must find this person if they want to save Douglas.
Three photos under a paper in the cage provide clues to the mystery owner: a scar on a man's finger, a yard with a view, and the railing on a boat. The four set off to find the mystery man. But before long they find it isn't just Douglas they have to save.
