| Daisy Jane loves playing with her favorite babysitter, Allie, and one of her favorite games is Brides, a make-believe wedding with Daisy cast as bride or flower girl and her cat as the groom. All that practice stands her in good stead when Allie asks Daisy to be the flower girl in her real wedding. After shopping for the perfect dress and practicing how to march "slow as ketchup," Daisy joins in a wedding and reception that are full of surprises. McDonald's genial narrative, good pacing, and precise wording give this entry in the Step into Reading series the edge over more mundane books for young readers. In the illustrations, rounded forms and warm colors give the pages an inviting look. Though the day doesn't go exactly as planned, the book is just right for the many little girls who are enchanted by weddings and enamored by the very idea of dressing up and walking down the aisle. |

| We read this book tonight for the first time. I was rather annoyed by the circumstances - first there is a big storm (something my daughter is afraid of), then the lights go out. Now my daughter is worried that will happen when she is a flower girl. I should have read this before I bought it. Other than that, it's cute. Although I think the phrase "slow as ketchup" is less than appealing. |
