| Kindergarten-Grade 3—When his flock migrates south for the winter, Max opts to stay behind—and quickly regrets it. Luckily, Irene and her pets live nearby in a cozy house, so the quirky duck makes himself right at home for the season, and proves to be a bit of a pest. Just when everyone has had their fill of Max's favorite TV shows, blanket hogging, and experimental cuisine, spring arrives, and he leaves to reunite with his flock—and, naturally, the entire household feels his absence. Urbanovic's animals, with their expressive, engaging facial features, take center stage in the open, cheery illustrations. They're detailed without being busy, and nuanced without being at all fussy. | From the moment I picked up this book I fell in love with it. The cover caught my eye as I walked through my local bookstore. Once I opened it I was in for an amazing surprise. I stood quietly in the store and read the book from cover to cover. The drawings are beautiful and created with such care that, for me, the characters quickly came to life! You will immediately fall in love with this DUCK! Any child would love having this book shared with them. I would think any adult would love it as well. I truly "got into" the book and think you will too. After purchasing this book, I got online and searched the author and to my surprise I found many other books out there with drawings by Jackie Urbanovic! It appears this is the first book that she has both written and illustrated. Kudos to Jackie! I look forward to more DUCK tales from her in the future!

| Jackie Urbanovic has written and illustrated two New York Times bestsellers, Duck at the Door and Duck Soup. She lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, and shares her studio with two playful dogs and one lovable cat, all rescue animals.
