Overview / 简介: |
When it comes to basketball, the Porker twins, Brendan and Belinda, are at the top of their game. They shoot hoops every chance they get, they practice regularly, and at night they study televised pro games with their dad. He hopes that one day they'll be as good as the superstars they see on TV!
No one is happier than Mr. Porker when the twins are recruited to join the elite Jump Shot Juniors League. Except now Brendan and Belinda don't have time for anything but basketball. They are exhausted. But how can they disappoint Dad, their biggest fan?
This action-packed book by Anne Rockwell and Paul Meisel stars two wise young athletes who know that playing for the top-notch team isn't nearly as important as enjoying the game—on and off the court. |
From Organization / 国外机构评价: |
Mr. Porker is a fanatic about basketball and teaches his twin piglets to play the game at a very early age. The family plays with a diverse group (horses, bears, foxes, goats, etc.) known as the All-Hoops Parents and Kids League. The talented twins' lives become so consumed with basketball that they can't even enjoy playing in the snow because they have to rush off to another game. When the twins complain, Mr. Porker relents and allows them to take time out from basketball and spend some time doing as they like. Although the messages—the dangers of overbooked schedules and obsessive love of sports—are more for parents, children will enjoy the sports connection and should identify with the family and team dynamics. The pictures amusingly feature many unlikely animals cavorting on the court and, conveying a pleasing domesticity, show the Porker family at home. This book is not a slam dunk for every library collection, but appropriate for many. Enos, Randall |
